The 2007 Ambridge Area Chamber of Commerce Celebration of Efforts Awards

On Wednesday the Ambridge Area Chamber of Commerce held their 2007 Celebration of Effort Awards Banquet. The purpose of this banquet is

...to celebrate the efforts of people in our community who make a positive impact, and deserve recognition.

We are proud, and grateful, to announce that the Ambridge Famiy Theatre received recognition as the Outstanding Business this year.

An outstanding group of individuals and organizations were recognized.

Many of our Senior High School students received the President's Volunteer Service Award for their volunteer efforts at the school and in the community. These young adults have volunteered up to almost 480 documented hours in the past year. We all know, where there is documented time, there is also undocumented time. They include

  • Love Ambridge, from Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry, for their work assistancing area senior citizens.
  • The Ambridge Rotary Club, at the First United Methodist Church of Ambridge

Recognized as Oustanding Employee was Donna Peduzzi, of the Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry.

Recognized as Outstanding Adult Volunteer was John Sevin, of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Recognized as Outstanding Youth Volunteer ws Naomii Collier, of the Ambridge Area High School.

Recognized as Outstanding Community Leaders/Organization was the Committee to Clean & Beautify Ambridge.

Recognized for Outstanding Public Service was Jack Lively, the Chief of the Harmony Township Police.

Recognized as Outstanding Student was Frank Karl of the Ambridge Area High School.

Recognized as Outstanding Teacher was Martha Piontek of the Ambridge Area High School.

Recognized as Outstanding Commercial Business was Economy Electric.

Recognized as Outstanding Industrial Business was Ryerson.

These individuals and organizations have worked to make our community a better place. They exemplify the spirit of leadership, love expressed through action, and accepting the responsibility to leave things better than the way they found them. Thank you.

The Last Mimzy

The Last Mimzy PosterThe weekend of April 27 we will be showing the The Last Mimzy.

The Last Mimzy is directed by Bob Shaye, the director of the Lord of the Rings films and several Nightmare on Elm Street films, and produced by Michael Phillips, who also produced Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It contains much of the flavor of Close Encounters.

Two children, a brother and a sister, find a box on the beach. In the box is a bunny. Soon, their find begins to change them, giving them psychic abilities. The government gets involved when they cause a blackout across Seattle. We get a glimpse of mystery, and our potential.

300 PosterThe weekend of April 20 we will be showing 300.

300 is based on the Battle of Thermopylae. In 480 BC the greatest leader of the mideast is Xerxes, ruler of Persia. The beginning of his failure to conquer Greece begins at Thermopylae, where the Greeks, led by the elite 300 guards of Sparta's King Leonidas. This movie is a view of that battle.

Some of us buy a car during midlife. Others get a new job. This group, starring John Travolta, Tim Allan, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macey, form their own biker gang and hit the road. I'm really looking forward to this one.

The Astronaut Farmer

Astronaut Farmer PosterThe weekend of April 6 we will be showing The Astronaut Farmer. I've been looking forward to this one myself since I heard about it.

Charles Farmer, played by Billy Bob Thornton, is an astronaut who has been forced to retire to save the family farm. He's never given up his dream of space, though, and determines to build his own rocket, even though the government wants to stop him from doing so.

Please note: We will be closed Easter Sunday, April 8, so if you want to see The Astronaut Farmer, make sure you come Friday or Saturday!
